The Waverly-Shell Rock Community School District is excited to announce the launch of a comprehensive strategic planning process aimed at shaping the future direction of the district. This initiative, guided by a diverse planning team, will unfold over the next several months, with a strong focus on engaging the entire community and key stakeholders.
The planning process will bring together a team representing district staff, administrators, and a broad range of Waverly-Shell Rock stakeholders. In the initial phases, community partners with deep connections to the district will participate, helping to provide valuable historical context and identifying past successes to build on.
As part of this process, focus groups will be organized for middle and high school students, staff at all levels (elementary, middle, and high school), and parents/guardians. Each focus group will consist of approximately 25-30 participants, who will have the opportunity to provide feedback on their daily experiences and share their vision for the district’s future. These 90-minute sessions will be vital in shaping the district’s strategic direction.
In addition to focus groups, a district-wide survey will be conducted to gather insights from stakeholders on their experiences and aspirations for Waverly-Shell Rock schools. This feedback will directly inform the development of a detailed operational and governance plan for the district. It’s important to note that this survey is separate from the recent communications survey.
The Waverly-Shell Rock school board and leadership team will be actively involved in the planning process, particularly in the development of a three-year work plan. This plan will ensure district initiatives and school or department projects are aligned with the district's goals for continuous improvement over the next three years.
To maintain transparency and encourage broad participation, regular updates on the strategic planning process will be shared through the district’s website and other communication channels. Community members are encouraged to stay informed and involved as the process progresses. The process should wrap up by the start of the 2025-2026 school year.
“We are committed to a collaborative process that ensures the voices of our students, staff, parents, and community are at the heart of our district’s future plans,” said David Hill, Superintendent of Waverly-Shell Rock Community School District. “This inclusive approach will help shape a vision for continuous improvement and excellence in the years ahead.”
